Form 3 Poisoned Talk Lesson (Pre-Reading)

  1. Teacher prepares pictures related to the topic - acid rain, pesticide, industrial waste etc
(refer to the suggested pictures below)

  1. Teacher cuts all the pictures into 4.
  2. Teacher distributes the pieces of pictures randomly to students.
  3. Teacher asks students to find their friends to form a whole picture and later form a group.
  4. Teacher assigns students with 2 tasks:
    • Explain about the picture that has been given to them
      • How does acid rain happen?
      • Why is pesticide dangerous to wildlife and our health?
      • What happened to the fish in the river?
    • Compose a song about the picture using 'Bangau oh Bangau' rhythm in English.
      • Bangau oh bangau,
        Kenapa engkau kurus?
        Macam mana aku tak kurus,
Ikan tak timbul timbul, ikan tak timbul timbul.
      • 'Fish oh fish
        Why are you dying?
        Of course I am dying,
The river is polluted, the river is polluted.
  5. Teacher walks around and elicits main terms about the picture from students. Teacher also might need to provide students with some key terms especially for weaker students. Teacher should encourage them to use these terms in their 'Bangau oh Bangau' song.
  6. Before presenting, teacher sets a purpose for the other students to listen to the presentation. Teacher asks the other students to identify the difficult words/main terms used by the presenting group.
  7. Teacher invites the groups to explain about their picture and present their song.
  8. In plenary, teacher elicits main terms and write them on the board.
  9. Teacher explains about the process of acid rain & pollution IF she has to reiterate the students' presentation.
I hope it helps! 💪
